A historic Warwickshire hotel has given one of its rooms a dramatic new look – with a Coventry resident winning the honour of naming the new room.

The former Chinoiserie Bedchamber at Coombe Abbey Hotel has had a makeover, and following an online competition, Annette Holden was named the winner with her new name suggestion of ‘Lake View’.

The Chinoiserie Room was one of the hotel’s most popular Grand Feature Rooms and thanks to her winning entry, Annette will now enjoy an overnight stay in the newly redecorated bed-chamber.

Annette first visited the former Cisterian Abbey when she got married in the Abbeygate more than 10 years ago and is now eager to return to see the refurbished room.

Her own wedding photos, taken outside the window of the bed-chamber, inspired her winning entry.

She said: “We got married at the Abbeygate in 2009, with our reception in the High Court at the venue, but looking at our wedding photos you can see the stunning windows and view from the Chinoiserie Suite, which is why I went for the name ‘Lake View’.

“I’ll be bringing my husband along for the overnight stay to enjoy my prize with me as we have never stayed in that particular room before and the new decoration looks stunning.

“We’ve been to Coombe a few times since our wedding; for Afternoon Tea, Christmas parties and dinner and every time we have loved visiting so it will be great to come back again!

“I’d like to thank the team at Coombe for this incredible prize and for giving us the chance to return to our wedding venue again.”

Ron Terry, General Manager at Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “We are delighted with the new name chosen for this suite, and for the positive feedback we’ve received so far on the new decorations.

“Each of our Grand Feature rooms has something unique – with four-poster beds, ornate furnishings, roll-top baths and even showers in the turrets to bring that extra bit of luxury to our guests’ visit.

“We chose Annette’s suggestion because the view over the stunning lake is what makes this room so special, and we are looking forward to welcoming her back to see the what we’ve done with it.”
