Met Office issues thunderstorm warning

For anyone hoping that the worst of the bad weather had passed, you’ll be disappointed.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms across the Midlands, East of England, South East and London.

Thunderstorms may develop bringing torrential rain, hail and lightning to a few places, with potential disruption to travel and flooding.

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

Thankfully, since we are inland severe flooding in residential areas is very rare in Coventry, but anyone travelling should still err on the side of caution and avoid travel if possible.

The yellow warning is in place from 18:00 tonight, 18 June, to 21:00 tomorrow evening.
