The café will fill one of the last unoccupied unit in the city’s new restaurant quarter, on the first floor above the Kanoo Foreign Exchange.
Wanyoo, Asia’s largest gaming café chain, has announced it will open a brand new esports café in Coventry.
Wanyoo UK is set to be the UK’s largest public esports brand, dedicated to offering a unique lifestyle gaming experience and deliver high-end customer service.
As a leader in the Chinese Internet cafe industry, Wanyoo has attracted a large number of urban young people with its network culture. The café will cater to the more hardcore esports community, as well as casual gamers.
The space, set to open on the first floor of Cathedral Lanes above the Kanoo Foreign Exchange, could feature an esports “battle area”, a public gaming area, and a mobile phone gaming space – which will all be available to the general public. It could also feature private gaming rooms for groups, with sofas, Xbox and PS4 consoles and televisions.
The company opened its first café in London earlier this year which is the UK’s largest public esports studio.
Wanyoo Information Technology Co. Ltd. is the company set to open the café, backed by a £21 million investment from Sicong Wang (Sephirex), the son of the Chinese billionaire Jianlin Wang. The company has outlined its mission to promote the growth of the gaming industry in the UK.
Zhaorong Chen from Wanyoo UK, said: “I wanted to develop a gaming environment and social platform for the entire community; one that would allow people to have fun, relax, interact and socialise.
“We have gone from strength to strength in Chinatown London, and now with an established student community, we can’t wait to bring this concept to a whole new customer base in Coventry’s leading new leisure scheme.”
It is unclear when the new esport studio will open.
