The Owners Insights

“We found the perfect plot of land for our dream house 11 years ago. Since being inspired by Kevin McCloud’s Grand Designs, we had our hearts set on living in a Huf Haus and we knew this would be the ideal location as we are surrounded by trees and it is extremely private,” recall the current owners.

“We worked closely with Peter Huf who designed the house to our requirements, and it has been perfect for us. We moved in just over 8 years ago and to this day, we have never tired of the 360-degree views of the garden. Its beautiful all year round, especially when the trees are covered in snow. The majority of the house is glass and everywhere is bathed in light. Its such a bright and airy house, yet it is also warm and welcoming, as well as being economical to run.

“The location has been fabulous too. It’s very rural so there are lots of scenic walks to enjoy, yet we also enjoy easy access to the motorway network and its just a short drive to the airport and Birmingham International railway station. There are a couple of pubs in the village and the busy village hall is at the heart of the community and offers something for everyone to enjoy, as well as hosting local events.

“The house is surrounded by terracing and there is always somewhere to go and relax in peace and tranquillity. The plot is fully enclosed, and we are not overlooked, so it is ideal for entertaining and relaxing. We enjoy sitting out on the comfortable furniture on the terrace and we’ve hosted lots of BBQs and parties for our friends and family, including an annual firework display. We designed the garden to be as low maintenance as possible, yet it is still very attractive with lots of interesting areas to enjoy such as the vegetable plot and flower garden.

“The large workshop is ideal for storing the garden equipment too. The pond and trees are a natural attraction for wildlife and we often see deer, pheasants, partridges and rabbits.

“We will miss the sense of space and of course those amazing views as they change throughout the year. Well also miss the beautiful light and its very true to say that this house will be a hard act to follow indeed.”
