The waterpark won the award for its state-of-the-art attractions and accessible design.
Coventry’s brand new £36m waterpark, The Wave, has been awarded a prestigious Leading Edge Award by the World Waterpark Association, thanks to its state-of-the-art attractions and accessible design – before it has even opened to the public.
The Wave opens today (Monday), featuring three floors of fun, including six water slides, the UK’s biggest wave pool, a lazy river, a toddler splash zone, a spa and health and fitness facilities.
The World Waterpark Association seeks to recognise creativity in the development of new themes, facilities, programs, services or operational concepts in the water park attractions industry, and also recognise suppliers who have developed new concepts, products or services that highly benefit customers and the industry.
The Wave’s special design to be an inclusive attraction that would be accessible to all ages and abilities, including those with physical challenges, were what impressed the World Waterpark Association, in particular, its attractions which feature wheelchair accessibility and a Splashpad which are uniquely configured to the space.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “This is fantastic news for The Wave, for the city and for the people of Coventry. The Wave has already become award-winning before it has even opened its doors!”
“I know how much everyone is looking forward to enjoying The Wave and there isn’t much longer to wait! You can book your tickets online now – and don’t forget to register for your Go CV card if you haven’t already to enjoy discounted prices for Coventry residents!”
The Wave’s partners, who were granted the award, include: Coventry City Council, Vortex Aquatic Structures International, Faulkner Browns Architects, Neuman Aqua Ltd, Polin Waterparks, and Water Technology.
