Christ Church Coventry

Christ Church has a long history as one of the churches forming the three spires of Coventry. However, following the destruction of the church in 1941 only the spire remains on the old site. The modern Christ Church lies a few miles away.

Council House

The Council House is a Grade II early Tudor style listed building with rich heraldic decoration. It was built in 1913-17 although due to the start First World War, the building was not officially opened until June 1920 by the Duke of York.

Coventry Freemen’s Guild Room

The City of Coventry Freemen’s Guild was re-formed in 1946 with the assistance of the City of London Freemen’s Guild. The original Guild was formed in the 14th century but was disbanded by Henry VIII.

Holy Trinity Church

Founded in the 12th century first recorded in 1113, it is one of the largest medieval churches in England. Features the famous Doom painting of the Last Judgement. This extraordinary building has survived fire, reformation and Blitz.

Lychgate Cottages (presently the Coventry Prayer House)

The Lychgate cottages are three interconnecting Grade II listed cottages. They are the only intact Benedictine Monastic buildings in the original priory precinct and their history and heritage are woven with that of Coventry’s St Mary’s Priory.

St Bartholomew’s Church

The present building was built at the expense of Lord Craven who owned Coombe Abbey nearby and was dedicated in 1773, although the original site dates back to the Middle Ages where there is evidence that a chapel was established here.

St George’s Church, Coundon

The original parish church on this site, was a wooden building dating from 1928/9 when the district of Coundon began to be rapidly expanded. The foundation stone of the new church was laid by Lord Iliffe, with the then vicar, Rev Bill Wilson in 1938.
